History
Nestled in the tranquil village of Puliyeri, within the enchanting landscapes of Virajpet Taluk in the heart of south Kodagu, stands the sacred abode of Mankuzhiyil Shree Bhagavathy Temple. Here, devotees pay homage to the divine form of Shree Bhagavathy, embodied as the formidable deity, Kali.
This sanctum’s story is one of profound significance. Once, the Devi of Mankuzhiyil was venerated at her ancestral home in Kerala by the Mankuzhiyil family. However, a pivotal moment of change occurred when circumstances led the family to sell their ancestral property and journey to Kodagu in Karnataka State in search of new opportunities. Regrettably, the temple and the cherished goddess languished in solitude for several years.
Generations came and went, and the family faced enduring trials and tribulations. It was during this period of adversity and struggle, that the family sought divine guidance, and the revelation came through the ancient practice of Swarna Prashnam. The divine message was clear: the goddess deserved a permanent place of worship near her ancestral home. The family acted quickly and decided to construct a Temple for their deity at a sacred place near their habitat.
As the construction of the temple gained momentum, a sense of the divine presence began to envelop the family and the surrounding community. They discovered solace and solutions to their problems within the temple’s spiritual aura, inspiring them to accelerate the construction process.
Finally, on a momentous day, under the auspicious Uthratadi Nakshatram, Friday, the 4th of March 2022, the deity found her permanent residence in the temple. Shri Elamana Sreedharan Namboodhiri presided over a grand five-day Pooja, marking the sacred installation of the beloved goddess within the hallowed sanctum.
